Tribute/Memory

Michael is in Hawaii and he didn't take me along! :( After dropping him off at the airport, I came home and pretty much spent this rainy day upstairs in my craft room. I don't know why it takes me so long to put a page together these days! When I first started scrapping, I could do a two page layout complete with photos and journaling in 2 hours or less. Now it's an all day affair. I wonder if it's because there are so many more choices and options.....

Anyway, today I scrapped the last photos of my step dad. Diagnosed with cancer in July, he came to visit me in October; his last independent trip in his car and one month before he passed away in November 2006. Trying to describe Dad is both simple and complex. He was not perfect but I'd like to remember his good sides which those are the I drew upon for the layout.

I'm thankful Dad went quickly from his diagnosis to his death. And I'm glad he was my step dad, though I knowing and loving him was not always an easy ride. On the whole, he was a good parent and grandparent. My children loved him and knew him as their only grandfather. I think it is telling that when he announced his illness, Loren and Karen announced their pregnancy with Katie. I'm not superstitious or religious but it does seem to be a pattern that as one family member is leaving us we gain another. The same thing happened when my grandfather died and Paul came into our family.

Here's what I did:

  1. Really nice! Maybe this one took longer as you took time to recall all the memories you had with him. I had a recent occurance of this when doing pages of my grandma.
I agree with what you said in regards to when one leaves us another arrives. We adopted our son and he was 6 months old when he came home to us and almost 6 months to the day after his arrival my grandma passed away. So I feel at times he fills the void I have in my heart for grandma!

  3. You did a great job on your pages! I too tend to take a long time to get pages done and I do think it is because there is so much more stuff out there! And believe me I have enough of it here! TFS
